Our Junior and Senior Dodgeball tournament were enjoyed by all and were a huge success! Junior Basketball is now in full swing, and students are looking forward to gearing up for the Hawk Run on May 12 and Let's Talk Science Challenge on April 28th.Please see the important information below regarding Newburgh’s Track and Field Day, as well as longer distance running opportunities for students in Grades 3–8. Earth Day is this Wednesday, and classes will be engaging in meaningful learning about environmental responsibility, stewardship, and caring for our planet in age‑appropriate ways. As well, students continue to learn about neurodiversity across the school. If you are interested in learning more, we invite you to consider attending the upcoming NeuroVibes Community Event. More information is included below.Grade 3 and Grade 6 EQAO provincial standardized testing will happen again this spring between May 5 and June 9, 2026. Specific EQAO dates for Newburgh PS will be determined by the teaching staff in the coming weeks and families will be notified. If interested, EQAO has offered the following parent information session:Register for this free live webinar and learn about EQAO’s Primary and Junior Assessments of Reading, Writing and Mathematics. Participants will learn about the purpose of Ontario’s large-scale assessments. Just as we celebrate differences in culture, language, and interests, neurodiversity reminds us that there is no single “right” way to think, learn, feel, or experience the world. Brain differences are a natural part of being human.Some people describe themselves as neurodivergent, meaning their brains work differently from what society often considers “typical.” This can include individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning or thinking differences. With the arrival of spring and warmer weather comes plenty of mud and puddles. Therefore, we will continue to monitor and close sections of the school yard as needed so students can play safely. Please ensure your child(ren) come to school with extra clothes and appropriate outdoor gear to change into if clothing becomes wet or soiled and keep a close eye on the day's forecast, so children are dressed appropriately for this unpredictable time of year. <h2 class="editor-heading-h2" style="text-align: start;">Newburgh Track and Field Day</h2> <img src="/images/7117e019-eba7-4f0c-b60e-b58f2c3b0e5f" alt="track and field images" width="155" height="132" style="width:155px;height:132px;display:inline-block">We are excited to share that our School Track and Field Day is coming up soon for Grade 3-8 students! Last week, students in all classes enjoyed Rocks and Rings, a hands-on experience that sparked curiosity and engagement throughout the building. Our Grade 6, 7, and 8 students also had an exciting and successful trip to the Blue Jays game—a memorable experience that connected learning, teamwork, and school spirit.Across the school, we continue to intentionally incorporate meaningful real‑world connections into our learning. Students have been learning about Epilepsy and Autism Awareness, and throughout April we are celebrating and honouring neurodivergent brains—recognizing, accepting, and valuing people for who they are and how they think, feel, and act. These conversations help build empathy, understanding, and a strong sense of belonging for all.As we move into the final months of the school year, there is so much to look forward to! Upcoming events include track and field, running club, Welcome to Kindergarten event, the Science Challenge Team, dodgeball teams, junior basketball, whole‑school Zumba, and many class trips to celebrate a year of learning and growth.Our teachers continue to warmly welcome the community into their classrooms to share in new learning. We are excited for Ruthy’s Reading Room to visit our primary classes, as well as experiential, hands‑on woodworking opportunities for students in Grades 6, 7, and 8 and Indigenous Beading.Grade 3 and Grade 6 EQAO provincial standardized testing will happen again this spring between May 5 and June 9, 2026. We hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable March Break. We can’t wait to see your children tomorrow and are excited to continue our journey of learning and growing together as we move into the spring season and toward June.Students who are receiving accommodations with their school programming will receive their updated IEPs on Monday March 23rd. Please review these important documents and reach out to your child’s teacher if you have any questions.As we wrap up the month of March, Grade 8 students will be having graduation photos taken, and Rocks and Rings will be visiting every classroom to introduce students to the sport of curling. This Thursday is Epilepsy Awareness Day, please consider wearing purple on Thursday to recognize and increase awareness about epilepsy. As well, Limestone schools will participate in Earth Hour again this year! While the official Earth Hour will take place on Saturday, March 28, 2026, we will hold our system-wide school Earth Hour on Friday, March 27, so students and staff can take part during the school day.With the arrival of spring and warmer weather comes plenty of mud and puddles. Please ensure your child(ren) come to school with extra clothes and appropriate outdoor gear to change into if clothing becomes wet or soiled.Finally, as previously mentioned, our school is beginning to plan for the next school year. We are exploring a potential move from a traditional day timetable to a balanced school day, which would include two longer nutrition and outdoor breaks instead of one long lunch and two short recesses. This model is used successfully in most elementary schools within Limestone DSB and offers benefits such as improved student focus, fewer transitions, and healthier eating habits, with three 100-minute blocks of instructional time. Our school’s start and end times would remain relatively the same, with a possible five-minute adjustment at the end of the day due to bussing. No decision has been made at this time, as we continue to consult with Tri-Board. About Our School

Welcome to Newburgh Public School located in the quaint, community oriented village of Newburgh in Stone Mills Township. Our school, which is home to about 125 students who range in age from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8, strives to ensure that our children develop into adaptable and resilient individuals who are capable problem solvers, ready to participate fully as responsible citizens in our community.

Upcoming Family Engagement and Climate Survey

The Limestone District School Board is inviting families to take part in the Family Engagement and Climate Survey. This survey gives families an opportunity to share their experiences with their student’s school and with the school board.The feedback helps us understand what is working well and where we can improve. It also supports schools and school councils in building welcoming, safe, and supportive school communities.The survey includes questions about:<ul class="editor-list-ul"><li value="1" class="editor-listitem">How schools communicate and share information</li><li value="2" class="editor-listitem">Whether families feel welcome, included, and connected</li><li value="3" class="editor-listitem">Barriers to taking part in school activities, such as time, childcare, language, accessibility, or cost</li><li value="4" class="editor-listitem">Safety and bullying, including reporting and follow‑up</li><li value="5" class="editor-listitem">Licensed Before and After School Programs, including questions to help inform future planning</li><li value="6" class="editor-listitem">Some questions ask about family background to help us better understand different experiences across our communities</li></ul>Participation is voluntary and anonymous. Families may skip any questions they choose. No names or identifying information are collected. Results are shared only as grouped summaries and are used to support learning, planning, and improvement at the board, school, and school council levels.The survey will be open from May 1 to May 11 and will be available online. Families will receive an e-mail on May 1 with a link to the survey. Paper copies will also be available at your school’s administrative office starting May 1.The survey was developed with input from families and advisory committees, including the Parent Involvement Committee, to reflect a wide range of perspectives. Message from the Director

Dear Families,As we enter the spring season and final third of the school year, we are reminded of this season’s promise of renewal and growth, and the key role schools and families have together in supporting student learning and well-being. This time of <a href="about:blank" class="editor-link">year</a> brings many opportunities for learning both inside and outside of the classroom, along with the return of outdoor extracurricular activities. While this week has been very wet and rainy, the warmer temperatures of spring are upon us.  I would like to take this opportunity to share a few important updates with you:P.A. Day – Friday, April 17A reminder to families that tomorrow, Friday, April 17, is a P.A. Day. There will be no classes for students, and we look forward to welcoming them back to school on Monday.Family Engagement and Climate Survey – Coming in MayIn early May, Limestone will be inviting families to take part in a Family Engagement and Climate Survey. The optional survey is anonymous, and families can choose which questions they want to answer.The survey asks about topics such as feeling connected to school, family involvement, safety and bullying, communication, before- and after-school programming, and how technology like artificial intelligence is used in schools.The feedback shared through this survey helps schools and the school board understand what is working well, what could improve, and what may make it harder for some families to take part. Reviewing and analyzing this information helps support safe, welcoming, and inclusive school environments and supports the board’s obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code. The <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/documents/dff6803b-6f2d-4d36-a758-68758a63ceb3/2026-04-09-Student-Human-Rights-Data-Summary-for-2024-2025.pdf" class="editor-link">Student Human Rights Reports – 2024-2025 Summary is now available online</a> and can be accessed by families. Student Census 2025 UpdateIn November 2025, Limestone completed the See Yourself in Limestone: Student Census 2025, a voluntary and confidential survey that helps us better understand students’ identities and school experiences. The findings support planning and decision-making that promotes equity, well being, and student success across Limestone schools. An overview of the Student Census 2025 was presented to the Board of Trustees at last night’s board meeting. Families are encouraged to <a href="https://www.limestone.on.ca/news/see-yourself-in-limestone-2025-student-census-update-20260416133605" class="editor-link">visit the Limestone District School Board website to review the full Student Census summary</a> and learn more about how student voice is helping shape our work. Mental Health Supports Available for StudentsIn response to tragic events, locally or globally, students may experience a wide range of emotions, including sadness, confusion, worry, or questions about what they may be hearing from others. Students may react in different ways depending on their age, experiences, and how connected they feel to the situation. With time, reassurance, and support from caring adults, these reactions often ease.We encourage families to keep lines of communication open at home, to invite questions, and to offer reassurance as needed.
